Notes for GRACE LARUE DAVIS:
Grace Davis being the eldest of the Davis', was kind of the main link of the family. She worked for the B&O Railroad, most of the time at the Hazelwood yard. Grace and her husband Steve Nagy would hold New Years parties at their home in Lincoln Boro that were basically family reunions.
Grace and Steve were my (Ducky) main link with my family since I was gone from our home area ever since I joined the USMC in 1959. When I visited home I would stay at Grace & Steves home. They let me take my drivers test in their 1956 Buick and drove me to the train station in Pittsburgh when I departed to boot camp.
Grace & Steve visited me nearly every location that I was stationed in the United States (Beaufort SC, Yuma Arizona, El Toro CA, and Fresno CA). Grace and Steve came real close to visiting my wife Rumiko, our Daughter Christine and me in Japan when the Viet Nam war caused a change of plans.

Notes for DAVID WATKINS DAVIS:
David Watkins Davis, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Was drafted, served his country and returned to Mckeesport , Pa. where he returned to work at Mckeesport National Tube, (steel mill) as a pipe fitter. Was known to most as Scoogie and was a terrific catcher in baseball where he played for the Dravosburg Merchants.
Held our family together by working and providing funds to support us. Aunt Annie (bless her) looked after the household.
Lived out his life after all were on their own at the YMCA in Mckeesport, Pa.
Never married, loved to hunt and was an excellent skeet shooter.
Passed away in his room at the YMCA Easter weekend. Was found by his brother Don, who returned to Pa. from Texas to visit for the weekend.
Scoogie never had a driver licence, walked everywhere he went. Later we found that Scoogie had trouble with motion sickness.
Scoogie saved most of his money and invested heavely in U.S. Saving Bonds. Possibly one of the best saving bond investors ever (at least of that time frame).
Taught his brother Ducky to be a catcher and rarely missed a game that I played, except for when he was in the Army.

Notes for BEATRICE LOUISE DAVIS:
Never really new much about Bea due to the fact that she married and moved to Warren, Pa. when I was a little one. Since Warren was quite far from home (About 180 Mi.) and no one owned cars at that time, we never had the opportunity to visit. I only met her once when I was about 12 years old. At this visit she treated me very well and I departed her home with good feelings about my sister Bea.

Notes for FRED LOUIS DAVIS:
Known as Foul Ball: Fred fathered five children and worked hard all his life in the National Tube steel mill in Mckeesport, Pa. Fred got his nickname Foul Ball due to he had a habit of hitting a lot of Foul balls while playing ball.
Fred liked to work on cars and to hunt. He really enjoyed driving out to our sister Doris farm in Ruff Dale to hunt pheasants and rabbits. As for deer hunting he would Hunt Doris' farm and go up to Dad's place in Sugar Run, Pa. While hunting with Dad, ( who truly knew the woods and where the deer run) Fred would be placed where he should stand and dad would drive the deer around for him to get his shot, only to find that Fred got bored and tired of waiting and had moved on his own. This would slightly disturb dad and as soon as dad would track him down he would chew him out in no uncertain terms.
I, Ducky had baby sit for all of Fred's and Doloris' children until I enlisted in the Marine Corps.

4. DORIS MAE3 DAVIS (FRED2, LOUIS M.1) was born October 27, 1928 in Dravosburg, Allegheny Co., Pa.. She married KENNETH MANNS May 27, 1947 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co. Pa., son of JOHN MANNS and MARY TASKERT.
Notes for DORIS MAE DAVIS:
Married Kenneth Manns and first lived in Wilson, Pa. (next to Clairton). Soon purchased a farm (I believe 100 Acres) in Ruffsdale, Pa. aprox 20 miles away from Wilson. Our family use to hunt at the farm year after year which was very good for rabbits and pheasants.
I use to walk/ hitch hike to the farm and stay a while and help them cut and store their hay. Talk about hard work. No hay bailers in those days. Also when Doris would harvest corn and other crops, she would load them on their old coal truck (dump truck) and come to Dravosburg where I would help her sell their crops (known as hucksters in those days).
As of the 1990's they own much more land in the same area and some of Ken's brothers moved into the same area. Where they were living at a rural route previously, the road is now named after the Manns family.
Oh yes, Doris taught me (Ducky) a very important lesson in life. While helping at the farm or visiting (time passes and some facts become distorted) we had just finished a great farm home cooked meal when Doris asked if we wanted ice cream for desert, everyone at the table said yes, I being a guest and not wanting to seem to eager (which I was) said I don't care. Doris responded that I don't care means that you don't want the ice cream (I really wanted it but was embarrassed to change my response) and therefore I went to bed not having Ice cream and dreaming how good that it must have been. Ever since, the words "I don't care" no longer exist in my vocabulary.

7. HELEN MARIE3 DAVIS (FRED2, LOUIS M.1) was born October 19, 1935 in Dravosburg, Allegheny Co., Pa.. She married BILLY THOMAS WILLIAMS Unknown in Allegheny Co, Pa., son of SUSIE.
Notes for HELEN MARIE DAVIS:
Helen Marie, had a hair raising experience one late night when she with several others were in a row boat out on the Monogahella River (down the hill from our home). They were near the middle of the river when a Tug Boat moving barges down the river struck their row boat and turned it over dumping all occupants into the river. Helen ( nickname Bo) could not swim, using good old Davis common sense, she held onto to the side of the row boat, thus saving her life. The Dravosburg Fire Department arrived to assist the beleaguered water soaked kids to shore safely. I don't know if she ever rode in a boat again, Atlease not as a teenager.
This is a news paper article (Daily News, McKeesport,Pa.) dated May 17, 1971.
20 Years Ago:
Helen Davis, 16; Bernard Lape, 15 and Robert Argyle, 15 all of Dravosburg and Anthony Nemeti, 16 of McKeesport, are rescued after being forced to leap from a rowboat set awash by an oil barge near the old Dravosburg bridge. Members of the Anchor Boat Club of Tenth Ward aid in the rescue.

Notes for NANCY JANE DAVIS:
Nancy was the best letter writer. While I was in Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, Nancy would write me the funniest letters. This would relieve my mind of all the pressures placed on me throughout the training day (which I might add, were many). I give Nancy credit for me making it through Marine boot camp because when I was down, her letter would arrive and my sprit would rise and thus nothing could stop me from achieving my goal to be a Marine. I never let Nancy forget how much I appreciated her letters. I might add, that I did get smacked along side the head a few times for laughing out loud but it was well worth it.

Notes for ROBERT RAY DAVIS:
Known as Hot:
Fantastic auto mechanic who would help anyone with a problem.
Hot was a person that would be the greatest friend in the world but would also be the one person that you would never want to cross. His memory was like an elephant (never forgot a thing).
Collapse just after arriving at work at the gas station in Port Vue, Pa. Self employed mechanic. Pronounce dead at Mckeesport Hospital, Mckeesport, Allegheny, Pa. Interment in Richland Cemetery Dravosburg, Allegheny, Pa. on Saturday 21 February 1998 just next to his brother David.
Hot was quite a prankster, more fun than a barrel of monkeys. No one could get over on him. Had a good response for anyone and at anytime.
Hot could fix anything, loved Cars and steam engine's.
Hot loved to play with the kids and would play hiding go seek with them, hide within a few yards of them and never be found by them.
Talk about someone proud of his kids. He would talk your leg off about them and how proud he was of the way they turned out. He always told me that his son David was the best welder in Pa. and that no one could weld Stainless any better than David and from what I seen I believe that he was right.

Eulogy (Presented by his Daughter Lorie) 2-18-98
I know my dads death was really unexpected, but that was one of the many things that made him so special. He was always surprising his friends and family by doing something un-expected.
My father was the most thoughtful person in the world, he always put others before himself.
I hope I follow in my dads footsteps, and help others the way he did, and always be a leader, and never a follower.
I always looked up to my dad, because he is the smartest person I Know.
My dad loved working on things, and fixing them up! When David and Dad brought home a Steam Engine, dad told me what every single part of it was, and what it did.
As I watched David and Dad work on the engine, I could tell that it was one of his many loves in life.
I know now, that Heaven has a new Angle and the night sky has a bright new star!
In my eyes my father is not gone forever, but in our hearts and our pryers.
When I look at dad, I see a strong, courageous, and generous person. That's why when we think of him, we don't think of him as gone, but eternal.
I know dad wouldn't want us to be sad, but happy for him, because he is in a much better place, watching over us.
Now that I have finished I would like to leave you with a quote from my brother, "Tears last for so long, but memories are forever".
Lorie Davis (Age 15 Yr's.)

11. DONALD RICHARD3 DAVIS (FRED2, LOUIS M.1) was born April 10, 1941 in Dravosburg, Allegheny Co., Pa.. He married RUMIKO MITSUTA September 17, 1964 in U.S. Embassy, Shimonegi-Shi Shitaya-Ku, Tokyo,Japan, daughter of AKIRA MITSUTA and NAKA MARUO.
Notes for DONALD RICHARD DAVIS:
Played football and baseball until I realized I could earn money if I played for the Business League baseball team and then the high school coach found out and I had to quit high school ball.
Played midget football (linebacker) for the first Dravosburg, Pa. Boys Club Midget Football Team.
Was Catcher for the Dravosburg Browns, the first Little League Season that Dravosburg Boys Club fielded an organized team and our team won the championship. Also was starting catcher for the first All Star team. Fred Wills and I were battery mates for the first All Star game which we won. Lost the second round game to Brookline, Jimmy Foust pitched this game.
Plaid Poney league baseball for Dravosburg until we moved to Liberty Boro. where they had no organize ball.
A special thanks to Mr. William Burton and his wife Mrs. "B" as we all call her at the time. They had a beautiful daughter Janice and no boys but they mortgaged their home for 5,000 dollars (a lot of money in the early fifties) to start the Dravosburg Boys Club which afforded great opportunities for the boys of this small town. Bill was the founder of the Boys Club. This is in the original charter.
Started un-organized baseball (Little League and Poney League) in Liberty Boro when I was in 8th & 9th grade. Adolph Dominick and his wife's sisters husband Bill Kessling (Owner of the local Drug Store) helped with donations of balls and some bats. Adolph (better known as Dolley) also loaned me his International Truck to drag the ball field which we kids made off of Liberty Way which later became the site of a Catholic Church .
I also used Dolley's truck to haul the kids to Dravosburg, Port View, and Mckeesport to play practice games since we belong to no league. We played with out uniforms but we were very competitive.
In 1959, first year of organized Little League in Liberty Boro, I was assistant manager of the (Indians) first league champs. Dolley Dominick was the manager and his son George was our catcher whom I taught to catch. The day after we won the championship I departed for Parris Island, South Carolina to begin my Marine Corps career.
Entered the Corps weighing only 90 pounds and returned home on my first leave as a Marine (after 16 weeks of boot camp at Parris Island and 4 weeks of advanced infantry training at Camp Geiger, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina) weighing 157 pounds and that was solid.
First permanent duty station was Marine Corps Supply Depot, Albany, Georgia. I was an armorer in Repair Battalion. Shot for the base Rifle and Pistol Team and represented the base in the Eastern Division Matches.
Retrained in Marine Aviation Ordnance and attended "A" school at NAS Jacksonville, Florida. Was then assigned to Marine Air Group 31 at MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina. Served in Marine Air Base Squadron 31. We re-activated MAG-31.
Deployed to Rosevelt Rhodes, Puerto Rico and Gitmo Bay , Cuba during the Cuban Crises.
Joined Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 235, (the death angles) at Boca Chico field in Key West, Florida and immediately departed on leave (delay in route) transfer to NAS Atsugi Japan for my first Japanese tour.
We arrived in the wee hours of the morning of 31 Jan 1964 due to our aircraft (707 jet) fighting head winds all the way, fueled in Hawaii and Wake Island. Since we were late arriving, the squadron that we were relieving, returned to the barracks to sleep so we had no quarters when we arrives at aprox 4 am. The buses dropped us off next to the barracks that should have been ours, but was still occupied by the Squadron that we were to replace, so we removed our horse blankets (green overcoats) from our sea bags, laid down on the ground with our heads against our sea bag and covered ourselves with our horse blanket and went to sleep. We never rested very well due to the extreme cold.
We were soon awaken by a beeping sound and a voice saying something like Ala ie, Ala ie. This was a Japanese Bus (later we found that the bus was commonly known as the 10 Yen'er for it cost 10 Japanese Yen to ride (aprox2.8 cents)) unloading Japanese Nationals. I looked at the door as passenger started off and saw this beautiful little Japanese girl getting off and then crossed the street and entered a door of a old building (later I found that this was our PX (Navy Exchange)).
Later I found that this beautiful girl worked their and her name was Rumiko Mitsuda. Many months later I scheduled a date with her which she accepted knowing that I had an All Star softball game that I would not miss for the world. But luck was on my side, the game got rained out and we went to town and had dinner. After dinner I walked her to the Yamato Train Station where she caught a train to her home town. I fell in love with this young lady (the first Japanese girl I saw in Japan, asked her to marry me nearly a year after I arrived in Japan and she accepted. We submitted our paper work requesting permission to get married and went though hell for 13 months and 21 days before the Marine Corps Commandant (General Green) approved our request to get married.
The Corps was generous, as well as the Navy Exchange, for they gave myself and my wife one half day off to get married. We departed for Tokyo by train at about 4:30 AM and got married at the Japanese Annex (married by the Japanese Government) and again at the U.S. Embassy (married by the U.S. Government) then immediately returned to Atsugi Base and report to work by noon.
My decision to marry Rumiko was the best decision that I ever made in my entire life. Not only is she the greatest wife but also the greatest mother and truly the kindest person that I have ever met. She cares about everyone before she ever thinks of herself.
Notes for RUMIKO MITSUTA:
Rumiko worked at the U.S. Navy Exchange, Naval Air Station Atsugi, Japan. This was the exchange on the Marines side of the Air Station where Don was stationed and met Rumi while she worked at the exchange which the Japanese called (The Animal Corel).
After we married, we lived at 3222 Shimo Tsurma, Kanagawa-Ken, Japan.
There was a rule that if a Japanese employee married an American Servicemen then they were no longer allowed to work at the Navy Exchange, but they allowed Rumi to continue working.
We owned an old 1950 Dodge that we used to travel around Japan in which used more oil than gas. Oil was expensive (about 6 times as much as a gallon of gas for one quart), while gas was $0.10 a gallon.
When Rumi and Don returned to the states in late Feb 1965 we sold the Dodge to Sergeant L.O. Davis for $100.00 which was what we paid for it two years earlier.

i. CHRISTINE ANN4 DAVIS, b. April 01, 1965, Yuma, Yuma County, Arizona; m. PAUL JEFFREY RUBIN, July 26, 1997, St.Phillips, Pima County, Tucson, Az..
Marriage Notes for CHRISTINE DAVIS and PAUL RUBIN:
Rehearsal scheduled for 6:00 PM Friday evening 25 July 1997 started a little late but all went well once started. After rehearsal, participants attended a rehearsal dinner at the Lowes Vantana Canyon Resort. The dinner was excellent and lasted till midnight for most and later for others. A fine time was had by all.
Saturday 26 July 1997 was a normal bright sunny hot Tucson day and after a long photo shoot the wedding began at 5:30 PM. It was a beautiful wedding at St Phillips located at the intersection of Campbell and River Road in the City of Tucson. The bride was absolutely beautiful and all went well and no one fainted though Christine's father had tears in his eyes when he passed Christine's hand to Jeff and kissed her.
The reception was held at the Westin La Poloma Resort immediately following the wedding and what a reception it was. Christine and Jeff left nothing to chance and it was perfect. As Christine's father on this wonderful day, I soon realized that not one of the doctor's attending this grand occasion had the courage to provide Christine's father with a no dancing chit due to his twisted ankle. As a result, I was trapped and had to dance for the first time in forty plus years. Oh yes I survived!!!
Honeymoon was in Hawaii.
